How to Prep Your Home for Window or Door Installation Day

The day is marked on your calendar. Your home or business is scheduled to have replacement windows or a Tournerr Doors iron pivot door installed. In the meantime, keep in mind a few housekeeping tasks that we ask you to consider before that day.

CLEAR THE AREA

We often overlook items sitting on window sills or nearby windows because we’re used to having them in the room. It’s best practice to remove any furniture from the indoor area to keep it clear for installers. Consider taking down framed artwork or home decor to protect them from unnecessary falls. Because we need access to the old windows to install new ones, it is necessary to temporarily remove window treatments including curtains and blinds.

Take a tour of the exterior of your home. We’ll also need room to set up a ladder and our tools underneath exterior windows, so clearing the area before we arrive makes for swift work.

PROTECT YOUR FURNITURE

Sawdust and dirt often kick up into the air when our installation crew is hard at work removing windows and doors. For example, prepping the wood frame to accommodate a Tournerr Doors in-stock or custom door can add dust to floors and furniture. Windows are no different.

Cover nearby furniture with old sheets or blankets to protect them from excess debris. It makes clean up much easier and you’ll have less dusting to do at the end of the day. Our crew will also use a drop cloth to protect your floor in the entryway.

KEEP THE FLOORS COVERED

We advise homeowners to keep the floors protected using drop cloths or plastic sheeting.

First and foremost, it keeps excess dust from collecting on the hardwood and carpets. Secondly, it helps floors from becoming inadvertently scratched during window or door installation.

DISARM THE SECURITY SYSTEM

If you keep your home safe using a third-party security system, make sure it is disarmed before our arrival. Comprehensive systems sometimes include window sensors. We ask that you also deactivate those devices for trouble-free window installation.
